What Is an MDF?

An MDF, or main distribution frame, is the primary distribution point in a commercial structured cabling system. It commonly serves as the main network room where backbone cabling, patch fields, and central distribution are organized.

Acts as a core point for building-wide structured cabling and network distribution.

Backbone Handoff

Receives or distributes backbone links to IDFs and telecom rooms.

Administration

Supports patch panels, rack organization, labeling, and structured cable management.
